Résumé
The socio-demographic trends have located ageing as a key issue in recent years and terms such as active ageing and successful ageing have emerged strongly. The objective is to test whether the importance ascribed to leisure by individuals contributes to an active and successful ageing and the hypothesis is affirmative. The study is based on quantitative methodology, using a survey. The questionnaire was administered in March 2014 to a representative sample of 1239 Spanish residents between 65 and 74. The results conclude that indeed the greater the importance given to leisure, the greater the level of participation in leisure activities (active aging) and the greater the sense of general well-being (successful aging). The article concludes by pointing out future lines of research and by identifying practical implications.
