Resumen

Enhancing the visibility of children’ discourses about their well-being, and to the other agents involved in their education is a resource of high value in the current research field. This paper aims to analyze the perceptions of the students and teachers of Primary Education (6-12 years old) on school well-being of the former, as well as the personal, social, and contextual factors that may limit or strengthen it. Using a qualitative methodology, an open-ended questionnaire was applied to 21 students and 36 teachers from schools in Galicia (Northwestern Spain). The results revealed the lack of definition about what it means to feel good at school both for the students and for the teachers, as well as the relevance given to the influence of the educational climate (relational, safety, and learning climate), the school engagement (cognitive, behavioral, and affective dimensions), the emotions (socials and thematics), and the family-school continuity/discontinuity (family involvement, flexible structure, and resources).  Giving voice to those who best known the educational reality and what truly influences their school well-being (the students) or their students’ well-being (the teachers) allows to identify the inhibiting and stimulating elements at school. Taking into account the qualitative point of view contributes to improve the comprehension of the phenomenon bringing out the information directly from the subjective experiences, impressions and appraisals of the informants.
