Abstract

The social function of the UNED constitutes its true reason for being and is based on its ability to facilitate higher education for those who cannot regularly attend face-to-face learning centers. This article tells the personal experience of two professors from the Central Headquarters who studied at the Associated Center of the UNED in Albacete and carry out their professional activ-ity at the UNED itself, and who, in addition to assuming university management functions, have also developed the activity tutorial. The UNED is today a fundamental and irreplaceable educational model in the Spanish uni-versity scene. Fifty years after its foundation, it is a consolidated institution, with a territorial implantation that guarantees the right to higher education to all citizens and a scientific and educational prestige that can be measured without any disrespect with that of the oldest and most accredited Universities of Spain. The UNED represents an unparalleled model, of great importance for the scientific and cultural cohesion of Spain and, at the same time, for the inte-gration, at the service of all, of the identity of the various territories in a shared project
